The Coalition has announced that the entire Gears collection of games on Xbox 360 will be unlocked through backwards compatibility for those who purchase Gears of War: Ultimate Edition or the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Xbox One Bundle.
Once you play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox Live from August 25 through December 31, 2015, you’ll get access to Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3 and Gears of War: Judgment when backwards compatibility launches this fall. While not fully remastered like the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, these additional Xbox 360 titles will be playable on your Xbox One with next-gen features like Game DVR, Snap, screenshots and more. You will also be able to keep all your previous saved files, add-ons and achievements as well. Multiplayer will be possible through Xbox Live no matter which Xbox console your opponents are using.
Now that backwards compatibility is an exclusive feature for Microsoft, it will be interesting to see how they leverage it in promotion for their upcoming titles. Sure, you can pick up all these game for a few bucks used at your local GameStop, but FREE is always better. It’s a great deal for anyone who is looking to barely jump on the Gears bandwagaon.
